Colleen and her husband Bill spent many a long winter in the resort town of Windham, NY before Bill retired and they decided to make the move to a more southern locale. Not too far, mind you, as they both loved the mountains and didn't want to give up enjoying four distinct seasons every year. The couple also loved boating on Lake George in NY and hoped to be able to continue to spend regular time out on the water wherever they settled. Their search landed them right here at Smith Mountain Lake – the best of all worlds.
Colleen brought along with her a well-established business: Tiger Lily Jewelers. Though she has owned and operated her own store since 2005, she has been a professional in the industry since 1985. Her interest in jewelry making was first piqued in high school, and it eventually led her to obtain a BFA Degree in Gold and Silver Smithing from SUNY.
She spent the next ten years learning the art of repair work under various master jewelers to add to her skillset that already included the design and production end of the trade. Several years and loads of practical, hands-on experience later, she finally felt ready to open her own shop.
Tiger Lily Jewelers (so-named for her favorite flower that also happened to be the focus of her senior exhibition project in college) was born and served local customers and tourists alike right up until her move to SML this year. Recently settled into its new location at the Halesford Plaza (next to Vinny's) Colleen is gearing up for her official grand opening on May 11th.
So, what does Tiger Lily offer?
Inside Colleen's shop you'll find about 30% of her inventory is made up of her own personal designs. The rest is a combination of lines by talented designers from around the country (many of whom she knows personally) and estate jewelry. She is particularly excited about a new nautical collection by Nichole Barr that just arrived! I've seen it, and the pieces are so perfect for complimenting your summertime lake wear. They'd also make great souvenirs for visiting guests! The styles and price points that she carries cover every taste, budget, and occasion.
