Pickleball is gaining popularity all around the nation, and Smith Mountain Lake is no exception! I've been seeing more and more folks asking on social media where the leagues and drop-in games are forming for the warmer months, so I did some investigating and put together a list of a few places to find pickleball that is open to the public in our area.
YMCA | 293 Firstwatch Dr., Moneta, VA | 540-721-9622 Indoor and outdoor courts available for a $12pp drop-in day rate. Pickleball play follows a weekly schedule, which you can find HERE. Carilion Wellness | 157 Westlake Rd., Hardy, VA | 540-719-3150 Six outdoor courts Pickleball Memberships are available for $25/mo. Day passes available to the public for $7.50pp and includes use of the entire facility. Huddleston Veterans Memorial Courts at Mitchell's Point Under Construction Eastlake Church | 1201 Timberwood Ln., Moneta, VA | 540-297-0966 Indoor courts available M,W,F from 9am to 12pm. Free to the public, but donations are accepted. Franklin County Parks and Recreation - Essig Center | 295 Technology Dr., Rocky Mount, VA 540-483-9238 Three indoor courts available that are free to the public. Daytime Hours: M-F 10:30-2 (Ages 50+) Evening Hours: Mondays and Wednesdays 5-8pm (Ages 18+) Paddles and balls are available - first come, first served. They also hold free “Intro to Pickleball” Clinics twice a month (a morning option and an evening option). More info HERE. Bedford County Parks and Rec Gym | 1059 Turning Point Rd., Bedford, VA | 540-586-7682 (Across from Bedford County Water Authority) Courts are available free to the public on Tuesdays and Fridays from 3-5pm. Limited paddles and balls available. Ivy Hill Golf Club | 1148 Ivy Hill Dr., Forest, VA | 434-525-2680 Seasonal Pickleball Memberships available, as well as a $7pp drop-in day use rate. Six freshly resurfaced outdoor courts. Clinics, league, ladder, and open play available. All ages. More info HERE.
